My name is Robin and I am a graduate of the Georgetown University Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, where I earned my Master of Arts in Communication, Culture & Technology (CCT).
I am originally from the Bay Area and an alumna of the University of California, Berkeley, where I majored in Media Studies and minored in Public Policy at the Goldman School of Public Policy. My time in Berkeley helped me discover my strong interest and passion for the complex intersections of media, culture, and communication.
After graduating from Berkeley, I held various roles in teaching, including as a freelance tutor, an afterschool program teacher, and a summer school kindergarten teacher. One of the things I loved about working with lower elementary school students is having the opportunity to connect my interests as a media studies scholar to my teaching, particularly when using short films and reading circles to teach kids about social and emotional learning. This ultimately played a significant role in my decision to pursue a graduate degree.
Coming into the CCT program, with my background and interest in Media Studies and passion for research, I knew that I would eventually pursue a career in academia. CCT was the perfect program for me because it presented opportunities to explore different research foci and the ability to engage with specific projects in a meaningful way. During my time at Georgetown, I pursued my passion for researching online communities and self-presentation, specifically how they relate to gender and sexuality.
With a strong drive for continued learning and a deep passion for teaching, my ultimate goal is to pursue a PhD and contribute to the field of Media Studies.
